Victorian College of Agriculture and Horticulture

 

The Victorian College of Agriculture and Horticulture (VCAH, now the Melbourne School of Land and Environment) taught courses through the following institutions:

  • Dookie Agricultural College (eg Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Diploma of Agriculture, Diploma of Applied Science (Food Production Horticulture), Viticulture and TAFE)
  • McMillan (Warragul, Leongatha Maffra) (eg Advanced Diploma of Agriculture (Dairy))
  • Glenormiston Agriculture College (eg Diploma in Farm Management)
  • Creswick (Ballarat) (eg Foresty and Ecosystem Science)
  • Gilbert Chandler (Werribee) (eg Dairy Technology)
  • Longerenong (Workco Limited) (Farming courses)

 

 The following VCAH grading schemes are available below:

  • 1992 onwards
  • 1986 to 1991

 

1992 onwards

HD
High Distinction
The student has achieved an outstanding performance in all aspects of the unit, shows no significant deficiencies and may have completed work of quality beyond the requirement so the unit.
D
Distinction
The student has achieved all the objectives of the unit with few deficiencies in demonstrating understanding, capacity to apply, and appreciation of unit content.
CR
Credit
The student has achieved the objectives of the unit clearly above the minimum standard required.
P
Pass
The student has achieved the objectives of the unit at a minimum level.
CP
Conceded Pass
Pass is conceded for that particular unit on the basis of results awarded in other subjects.
N
Fail The student has not met the minimum requirements of the unit, and has not achieved an acceptable performance in the objectives of the unit.
NN
Low Fail
The student has not met the minimum requirements and has made little or no progress towards achieving the objectives of the unit.
UP Ungraded Pass
This grade shall be used in some units where an ungraded pass system shall apply.

 
The following grade shall be used as a temporary grade:
RD
Result Deferred

This grade may be awarded to a student who:

I) Has valid reasons, approved by the Course Committee, for not being able to complete the pre-specified work for assessment. The student may receive a higher than pass grade if applicable when assessment is finalised; OR

II) II) Has a small amount of supplementary work, approved by the Course Committee, to complete in order to pass a subject, unit or component. In this case the student may not receive a grade higher than a pass.

In (I) and (II) above, the student is informed by the Course Committee of the final date when the RD grade must be converted to a grade. Any extension beyond this deadline may be approved by the Course Committee but not for a period of more than three (3) weeks.


 
The following grades shall be used to indicate credits and exemptions:
CG
Credit granted for work completed prior to admission or for work undertaken at another approved institution.
EX
Study recognised and exemption from certain unit(s) allowed but no credit granted.

 
Other symbols which may be used to recognise uncompleted units are as follows:
W
Withdrawn without penalty.
M
Assessment deferred on medical or compassionate grounds.
ZZ
No assessment due this semester or year.

 

 

1986 to 1991

HD
High Distinction

Compensatory Pass
Awarded to those students who, in the opinion of the Campus Board of Examiners, would have, without the unforeseen circumstances or ill-health or other approved circumstances leading to absences from assessments, been capable of passing the unit.
NCP
Conceded Pass
Pass is conceded for that particular unit on the basis of results awarded in other subjects.
N
Fail
The student has not met the minimum requirements of the unit, and has not achieved an acceptable performance in the objectives of the unit.
NN
Low Fail
The student has not met the minimum requirements and has made little or no progress towards achieving the objectives of the unit.
